Chair project

In 2018, in addition to her paper paintings, Astrid Vlasman started making paper maché chairs. A chair was occasionally made of garden wire, painter's tape and paper maché and approximately 15 cm high. In the course of time, a whole series of small chairs arose, none of which is equal. The models arise intuitively, they are recognizable models but also fantasy chairs. During the drying process, the chair skews and gets its own character. They become clumsy, bumbling objects that together form a strong army of chairs.

The project is still going on. New ones become part of the group. The seats are not sold separately but can be adopted. After payment, the person taking care of a chair receives a nameplate under the seat, a photo with the chair and regular updates about the location of the chair in new installations

Houseplants

For the Textile festival in Leiden in 2020, Astrid Vlasman has been asked to set up an embroidery project together with Merkwaardig. The intention is for everyone to embroider their own houseplant in a pot. For this embroidery project, everyone who likes this is invited to participate; young, old, experienced and inexperienced. People can be challenged by the plant that is always in the corner of the room. But everyone can also fantasize their own plant. The result is always good. It's all about diversity and all embroidery stitches (including made-up ones) are allowed. Even unfinished attempts are included in the large installation in the Pieterskerk in Leiden. You can join us!
